However, more and more women are taking the plunge and running their own full and part-time businesses. Although the majority say they have to work twice as hard to gain the same respect as their male colleagues. The South West is bucking the trend with above average figures for female entrepreneurs.
17.6% of all business in the South West are led by Women - UK average is currently 16% The figure, released by the South West of England Regional Development Agency is an encouraging sign that women are realising their potential in business today.
Nicki Stewart, Managing Director of Diverse Hampers has been a Director since the age of 19. She started her first company, dealing in Office Supplies and Corporate Gifts directly from college. She would be the first person to encourage women into business and has actively helped start up companies with advice and contacts.
