Chocolate and Red Wine – Perfect Partners.

Diverse Hampers | Chocolate Meets Wine

We were recently treated to a very enjoyable tasting event from a noteable Belgian Chocolate manufacturer who concentrates on the fusion of flavours between Red Wine and Chocolate.

The range, Chocolate meets Wine, has been crafted with the combination of experience from Sommeliers, Wine Growers and Chocolatiers. The result is a stunning combination of flavours melting together on your tongue.

Chocolate Meets Wine have a range of products to suit a diverse range of Red and White Wine, Sherry and Port. Our favourites were the combination of Red Wine and their partners.

50% Cocoa Belgian Chocolate partnered with a heavy Merlot being the outright winner. We have decided to design a gift hamper based around these products.

Also available and very close to the winning combination:

60% Cocoa - partner with mature wines with refined tannings, a good Pinor Noir is recommended, alternatively a Cream Sherry or Ruby Port.

77% Cocoa - partner with aromatic Red Wines, such as Zinfandel or a Shiraz, again Port works well, or a Cabernet with an exceptionally heavy structure.

35% Cocoa - sweet ingredients dominate, therfore a dry wine has no chance, pair with a noble sweet or red wine. A pleasurable combination for a sweet tooth.

Basic rules for pairing wine and chocolate:

Use quality wine with quality chocolate
The higher the cocoa content in chocolate, the drier the wine should be
Bitter Sweet or Semi Sweet chocolate is best with Red Wine
The higher the tannin content in a Red Wine, the stronger the chocolate should be
Taste Wine on the tongue, then follow with the chocolate
Try it - we can guarantee it is a winning combination!
